I was in Germany when the Air Lift started. I was with the 603rd AC&W Sq., in Hof, Germany. I was on a RADAR stie which was mobile. But when the trouble started they made us stationary. We were sitting just south of the Eastern Zone and East of Czechoslovakia. I was a 17 year old kid and I thought that we were going to have WWII all over again. I was shipped to the 604th AC&W Sq. in Freising. I had the job of watching the aircraft fly to Berlin, and keeping them in the corridor or flight zone. In October 1949 they sent me home. I was there first for the Air Lift and when they sent me to the states, I went with another first. 3089th Experimental GR.
